Een chimaera is een beest uit de Griekse mythologie dat bestaat uit delen van verschillende dieren; een leeuwenkop op het lijf van een geit en met de staart van een slang. De muziek van de Amerikaanse band Orgone brengt vele componenten uit bestaande muziek samen, zolang het uit de jaren 60/70 afkomstig is en genadeloos grooved. We horen elementen van beproefde funk- en dansbands als War en The Meters, maar ook de afro beat wordt niet geschuwd naast gekwelde southern soul. Als het maar dansbaar is en voorzien van een gruizige vintage sound. De groep rond gitarist en producer Sergio Rios ontstond in Los Angeles in de jaren 90 en begeleide aanvankelijk voornamelijk lokale rappers. Een groeiend repertoire van eigen materiaal en covers leidde tot succesvolle optredens als uitbundige dansfeesten. Op het gedeeltelijk instrumentale Chimera is dat niet anders, maar de groep maakt daarnaast indruk met hun gevoel voor sfeer en veelzijdige benadering van soul en funk.
