De zwoele sfeer zindert nog even door nadat Rotterdam met North Sea Round Town en het North Sea Jazz Festival ruim twee weken in het kader van de jazz heeft gestaan. Een goede gelegenheid om een Sijfse muziektip te geven die daar op perfecte wijze inhaakt. Hoewel hij, zeker qua variatie, collega’s als José James en Gregory Porter in principe doet verbleken, is jazzzanger Dwight Trible nooit doorgebroken. Na jaren plaats nemen achter de achtergrondzangersmicrofoon en meegewerkt te hebben aan spirituele jazzprojecten als Build An Ark brak hij op 55-jarige leeftijd door met zijn debuut Love Is The Answer. Bijna 20 jaar later is op Ancient Future te horen dat Trible nog niets van zijn zeer krachtige stemgeluid is verloren. Veelal blijft hij in een op Isaac Hayes gelijkende bariton hangen om af en toe meerdere octaven in de hoogte te schieten. Wat hij ook doet, deze zeer spirituele zanger blijft constant verbazen met een bezieling die uit het diepste van zijn tenen komt. Funk en soul zijn ruimschoots vertegenwoordigd op dit afwisselende album, maar de ware jazzliefhebber komt pas aan zijn trekken als Trible zwaar de diepte in gaat.
